Watch: Man Makes Dosa Batter From Scratch For Indian Wife, Internet Applauds

When one is homesick, eating one’s favourite dishes from home can help alleviate that feeling. Recently, a vlogger couple posted a video showing what the husband did when his wife was feeling homesick. The reel has since gone viral and won many hearts online. The husband (Ben), who’s a foreigner, is seen preparing dosas from scratch for his Indian wife (Sheeba). When we say “from scratch”, we mean that he also prepared the dosa batter himself. In the clip, we see him grind the ingredients separately and later combine them. In the comments, he revealed that he used 4 cups of rice, 1 cup of urad dal and 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds for this recipe. He washed and soaked them overnight. After grinding them, he suggests mixing “vigorously for at least 60 seconds to combine.” In the comments, he also states that he is using a wet grinder that his in-laws sent from India.

Ben is seen giving his wife a taste of the batter to check whether it’s okay. While he’s in the kitchen, we also see his wife come in and feed him some rice, which he seems to like. The next step in the batter preparation is fermentation. To do this, we see him keep it in a covered vessel inside an oven with the light on. He revealed that he left it there for 12-24 hours to ferment. Later, he adds water to the batter to get a runny consistency. Once ready, he spreads it on a hot tawa and roasts it with what looks to be ghee. Once the crisp dosas are ready, he piles them on a plate with chutney and serves it to his wife.
