UPI down: Users say unable to send money through GPay, PhonePe, Paytm and other apps

UPI users reported widespread transaction failures, experiencing difficulties sending and receiving money through platforms like Paytm and Google Pay. This marks the second such outage in two weeks, with users previously reporting similar online payment issues.
According to Downdetector, the outage peaked at around 7.30 pm, preventing hundreds of customers from funds transfer (52%), making payments (45%) or using the app (3%). The reason for the outage remains unidentified and apparently it was not as widespread as the previous outage.
Notably, when members of the Times of India Tech team checked, the UPI app was working fine.

Second UPI outage in a week’s time

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the UPI system, did not acknowledge the outage at the time of writing. However, in the previous instance, the body acknowledged intermittent transaction declines affecting some banks.
“Today, due to financial year closing, some banks are experiencing intermittent transaction declines. The UPI system is functioning correctly, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal,” NPCI stated in its post.

UPI users show frustration on social media

UPI users took to social media to vent out their anger against the problem.
Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services were down across major apps, the second major outage in a week.
