Lucknow: UP govt has ordered strict enforcement of the ban on illegal abattoirs and meat sales within 500m of religious sites till Apr 6, the last day of Navratri, in the state. The ban orders were issued in 2014 and 2017.
Urban development principal secretary Amrit Abhijat has directed all DMs, district police chiefs, and municipal commissioners to ensure strict implementation of the order. District-level committees, headed by DMs, have been formed for the task. tnn
MP temple town bans meat sale during Navratri
Sale of meat, chicken, fish and eggs has been banned in the temple town of Maihar during Chaitra Navratri — March 30 to April 7. Maihar, 470km from Bhopal, is home to Maa Sharda Mandir, a Shaktipeeth. It was declared a religious city by MP tourism department, and liquor shops were banned here in Jan this year. Thousands of devotees are expected to visit the town for the nine-day ‘Maa Shardey Chaitra Navratri Fair’.
On Saturday, the SDM issued an order banning sale and purchase of non-veg in Maihar municipal area from March 30, 2025, until midnight on April 7, 2025, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023. Anyone caught violating this order can land in jail for up to a year.
