Union minister Nityanand Rai's nephew guns down brother over water feud

BHAGALPUR: Two of Union minister Nityanand Rai’s nephews shot each other on Thursday following a dispute over collecting tap water. While one of the brothers died, the other one and their mother, who also sustained a bullet wound in her hand as she intervened in the fight, are undergoing treatment, reports Kumar Rajesh.
The violent confrontation took place at their residence in Jagatpur village under Naugachia police district in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district.
The deceased was identified as Vishwajit Yadav, while his brother Jayjit Yadav, a former mukhiya, is in a critical condition. Their mother is a cousin of the Union minister of state for home affairs.
According to sources, the two brothers had been embroiled in a land dispute for over a year, which had strained their relationship. Naugachia SP Prerna Kumar said,”Samples have been collected and videography of the site has been conducted as part of the probe.”
“We are closely monitoring the situation and further details will be shared once the investigation is complete,” range IGP Vivek Kumar said.
