After more than three decades, Formula One may finally return to Africa, with South Africa mounting a bid to host a Grand Prix in 2027. If Pretoria succeeds, the competition will take place on Cape Town’s scenic street circuit or the historic Kyalami track near Johannesburg. The country’s sports minister, Gayton McKenzie, has expressed confidence in his country’s chances. However, Rwanda also vies for a spot, leveraging its strong global sports partnerships. For McKenzie, Kigali’s interest is not an obstacle. According to him, Africa can host two races and should not be limited to one. Besides Rwanda and South Africa, Morocco is another African country that hopes to host an F1 race.
