Shark Tank's Anupam Mittal says 'Kamaal hai India ...' on Singapore's Temasek buying 10% stake in Haldiram for $10 billion

Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal has reacted to Singaporean investment firm Temasek acquiring a stake in Haldiram’s. The founder and CEO of Shaadi.com took to the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to comment about the acquisition. Mittal’s comment on X refers to the reported valuation of Haldiram Snacks Foods, the parent company of the popular Indian snacks brand, at nearly $10 billion (around ₹8,500 crore). Temasek is said to acquire a 9-10% stake in the company for this substantial sum.

The latest acquisition stands as one of the largest recent deals in India’s fast-moving consumer goods sector, potentially paving the way for increased foreign investment. The agreement was signed this week after months of negotiations, which saw Temasek emerge as the highest bidder for the minority stake. According to sources, the investment highlights Temasek’s strategic push to expand its footprint in India’s rapidly growing consumer sector.
With an estimated $37 billion exposure to India as of March 2024 and plans to invest another $10 billion over the next three years, Temasek is broadening its portfolio beyond high-profile holdings such as Manipal Health—where it holds a 51% stake following a $2 billion investment—and Rebel Foods, where it led a $210 million funding round in 2024, valuing the company at $1.4 billion.
While Temasek secured the minority stake, discussions are reportedly ongoing with private equity giants Blackstone and Alpha Wave Global for an additional 5% stake that the promoter family is considering selling, sources said to TOI.
