The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has disclosed that Nigeria exported 7.2 million tons of non-oil products, valued at $5.45 billion, in 2024. According to Dr. Nonye Ayeni, the NEPC’s director, the West African country exported 20.7% more non-oil produce in 2024 than in 2023, expanding its export destinations to 126 countries. She pointed to this growth as proof that Nigeria is making progress in diversifying Nigeria’s economy. The NEPC is at the forefront of the country’s efforts to make the Nigerian economy less dependent on oil and gas. Ayeni noted that, in 2024, the council conducted 629 capacity-building programs to boost the competitiveness of Nigerian exporters. She also disclosed that the NEPC is working hard to improve international access for Nigerian exporters. The impressive growth in non-oil exports underscores Nigeria’s commitment to expanding its trade portfolio, paving the way for sustainable economic development and reducing reliance on oil revenues.
