Nigeria is looking to partner with India to fast-track its energy transition, a senior government official announced at India Energy Week. Through the collaboration, the West African state aims to secure much-needed funding and technical expertise to implement green energy projects across the country. The official, Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba State, emphasized that while the world is shifting to renewable energy, Nigeria faces significant financial challenges that hinder its progress. Meanwhile, India is set to link a record 35 gigawatts of solar and wind capacity to its grid by the fiscal year ending March 2025, highlighting its green energy goals. Consequently, the Nigerian government seeks to learn from its blueprint. This initiative is seen as a crucial step to address the frequent power outages in Nigeria, caused by aging infrastructure, under-investment, and vandalism, and to provide alternative energy solutions for communities lacking reliable grid access.
