Koala’s emergency surgery goes ahead despite cyclone – video | Australia news


Currumbin wildlife hospital in Queensland is one of the busiest animal hospitals in the world. When ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred was approaching last week, the hospital was battening down the hatches – but just hours before the cyclone hit, a female koala named Laura Leaf needed emergency abdominal surgery. The hospital had to close for safety reasons as the cyclone drew near, so nursing supervisor Mallory Wilson converted her own home into a makeshift koala ICU and brought Laura there. With the help of round-the-clock care, Laura was soon looking bright and back to eating her favourite meal
