Comedian Kapil Sharma, choreographer Remo D’Souza, singer Sugandha Mishra and actor Rajpal Yadav have reportedly received death threats through email, with suspicions pointing to Pakistan as the origin. This unsettling development has left fans concerned. In response, Mumbai Police have acted swiftly, with the Amboli Police Station filing an FIR against an unidentified individual under Section 351(3) of the Bombay Police Act (BNS) and launching an investigation into the matter.
The alarming chain of events kicked off on December 14. Kapil Sharma, along with other celebrities received a death threat via email signed off under the name “BISHNU.” As per the reports, the email read, “We are monitoring your recent activities and we believe it is important that we bring to your attention a sensitive matter. This is not a publicity stunt or an attempt to harass you, we urge you to treat this message with utmost seriousness and confidentiality.”
According to the police, the sender demanded a response within 8 hours, warning them of the consequences on personal and professional fronts.
Given the threats, Kapil Sharma and his family may get police protection for their safety. Despite the unsettling developments, Kapil has been busy with his back-to-back projects. The comedian recently wrapped up the second season of The Great Indian Kapil Show. Besides, he also ventured into the music arena and released his latest single titled Guilt. The music video of the song features Kapil in the role of a billionaire who mourns the loss of his wife.
In light of the security threats, Remo D’Souza also informed the authorities about receiving a similar threatening email. Meanwhile, a non-cognizable offence was filed based on Sugandha Mishra’s complaint. Rajpal Yadav, who received his threat on December 14 last year, reported the incident to the police on December 17.
Speaking with NDTV, Rajpal Yadav said, “I have filed a complaint with Amboli Police and cyber crime department. After that, I haven’t discussed it with anyone. I am an artiste and I want to entertain audience with my performances. The agencies can update on these matters.”
