BENGALURU: Global capability centres (GCCs) are set to surpass IT services companies in hiring tech talent, says a study by HR firm NLB Services.
The report says GCCs will witness a two-fold increase in their workforce over the next five years and they are planning to hire 4.5 lakh professionals this year. “By 2030, GCCs are projected to employ approximately 3.3 million professionals, adding over 1 million new jobs within the next six years.” Delhi-NCR will be the major driver of this growth. Companies, including those in newer sectors such as sustainability, ESG, media, entertainment and gaming, demonstrate growth aspirations with their plans to set up new GCCs this year.
GCCs are relying on India as a key talent destination, with the country emerging as a crucial extension of their parent organisations. These centres are executing a significant portion of technological operations from Indian locations, recognising nation’s strategic importance in their global operations. Even in India, they are expanding into cities like Coimbatore and Jaipur, which are newer talent hotspots. In order to attract talent in these cities, captives are offering a 15% to 28% premium in salaries compared to IT services firms, Varun Sachdeva, SVP and Apac head at NLB Services, said. In addition to this, he says, more and more GCCs are offering employees stock options just like startups, among other perks, to woo skilled tech talent.
About 34% of the hiring is in data, cybersecurity, and customer experience and support services, followed by 37% in AI, digital transformation, cloud computing, and DevOps. Rest of hiring is happening in specific areas like fintech, healthcare, marketing and creative services, legal and compliance, etc. NLB surveyed 200 GCCs from various sectors, out of which 35% see their workforce growing between 50% and 100% or more in 2025 alone.
