NEW DELHI: As the counting for the Delhi assembly election continues, the voters get a clearer picture of the next person to sit on the throne. Till 5:30, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 43 seats while the Aam Aadmi Party is not even close to the majority mark.
In this election, several big leaders lost their seats, shocking news for the parties. Several parties somehow depended on their leaders for giving them a major victory but their losses gave the opposition a breakthrough.
Take a look at the politicians who defeated the major politicians and marked the new beginning of their political life.
Delhi Election Results 2025
BJP’s Parvesh Singh Sahib Verma
In the Delhi election, one of the giant slayer is Parvesh Singh Sahib Verma who defeated former chief minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal with over 4,000 votes.
BJP candidate Verma emerged victorious in the New Delhi constituency with a lead of 4,089 votes. The Delhi assembly election results showed Verma obtaining 30,088 votes, whilst Kejriwal received 25,999. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit finished third with 4,568 votes.
The electoral contest in the New Delhi constituency was keenly fought between notable candidates including AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. According to the Election Commission, the constituency recorded a 56.41 per cent voter participation.
It must be a shocking news for Kejriwal as he won the election from that seat for the past 10 years.
BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah
Another politician who helped the BJP in coming back to the Delhi politics is BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah. He defeated former Delhi deputy CM and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia from the Jangpura constituency by 38,859 votes.
Meanwhile, Sisodia received 38,184 votes in the election. It is also trues that Jangpura was not his winning constituency seat.
In his interaction with the media, Sisodia accepted the defeat gracefully, stating, “We fought the elections well. I would like to thank the people who supported us. However, we have lost the election by around 600 votes.”
Prior to this contest in Jangpura, Sisodia had emerged victorious in three successive elections from Patparganj constituency (2013, 2015, and 2020). AAP’s choice to field UPSC instructor Avadh Ojha in Patparganj turned out to be a bad move for the party.
BJP’s Kailash Gehlot
BJP candidate Kailash Gahlot won the Bijwasan constituency seat with a margin of 11276 votes. Gehlot defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Surender Bhardwaj and Congress’ Devinder Kumar Sehrawat.
Gehlot has definitely won the public’s heart. Despite of changing the party, public showed their loyalty and made him another giant slayer.
In November 2024, Gahlot switched his political allegiance from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP. During the Delhi assembly elections of 2015 and 2020, when AAP dominated by winning 67 and 62 seats out of 70 respectively, Gahlot contested from Najafgarh constituency.
His 2015 victory was close, garnering 55,598 votes (34.62 per cent), with Indian National Lok Dal’s Bharat Singh following at 54,043 votes (33.65 per cent).
BJP’s Shikha Roy
BJP candidate Shikha Roy emerged victorious in Greater Kailash assembly constituency, defeating AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj by 3,188 votes.
The vote tally showed Roy garnering 49,594 votes, whilst Bharadwaj received 46,406 votes. The Congress candidate Garvit Singhvi finished third with 6,711 votes.
After 14 rounds of counting, the final outcome revealed the close electoral battle in this significant constituency. The contest witnessed a three-way competition between AAP’s Bharadwaj, BJP’s Roy and Congress’s Singhvi.
Bharadwaj, who had secured a substantial victory in the 2020 assembly polls, faced a different scenario this time. Roy’s triumph indicates BJP’s increasing support base in the constituency, despite AAP’s established presence in the area.
BJP’s Karnail Singh
BJP nominee Karnail Singh emerged victorious against AAP’s former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in the Shakur Basti constituency, establishing a lead of approximately 21,000 votes. The ECI data showed Karnail Singh received 56,869 votes, whilst Satyendar Jain garnered 35,871 votes. The Shakur Basti seat holds no reservations for Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.
During the 2020 Delhi assembly Elections, Jain had successfully defended his seat with 51,165 votes, representing 51.6 per cent of total ballots cast, surpassing BJP’s SC Vats who secured 43,573 votes (43.94 per cent). The victory margin stood at 7,592 votes.
The 2015 Delhi assembly Elections witnessed Jain’s triumph with 51,530 votes, constituting 48.67 per cent of the vote share. In that contest as well, BJP’s SC Vats finished second, securing 48,397 votes (38.04 per cent).
