Egypt Tells Rubio: Arab States Reject Trump’s Plan to Displace Gaza’s Palestinians

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has communicated the Arab states’ unequivocal rejection of President Donald Trump’s plan for Palestinians to the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump has, in recent times, suggested that Palestinians be relocated from Gaza to neighboring Egypt and Jordan with no right of return. Trump’s plan will also see the US take control of the conclave and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” In a Washington meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the critical need to fast-track Gaza’s reconstruction while ensuring that Palestinians remain in their homes. A subsequent statement from the US State Department noted that Rubio called for enhanced cooperation on post-conflict governance and security in Gaza, insisting that Hamas must never govern the territory or threaten Israel. Meanwhile, Trump’s comments have been widely panned by critics, with rights advocates and the UN labeling it a proposal of ethnic cleansing.
