A slim victory margin against BJP‘s Ravinder Negi in 2020 played a pivotal role in prompting three-time MLA and AAP‘s second-in-command Manish Sisodia to shift his constituency from Patparganj to Jangpura this time. However, the move didn’t deliver the expected results, as voters chose BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah as their representative.
While Patparganj would typically have been Sisodia’s preferred choice, the growing threat of anti-incumbency, legal troubles and the opposition’s aggressive stance on corruption allegations may have influenced his decision to switch seats.

AAP hoped the constituency’s Dalit and Muslim communities would give him the edge over his rivals. Marwah, who left Congress to join BJP in 2022, took on Sisodia, whom he referred to as an “outsider” in the constituency, and Congress candidate Farhad Suri, an ex-Delhi mayor.
Several factors contributed to Marwah’s success, among them promises to improve infrastructure which resonated with middle class that may have felt disappointed by AAP’s unfulfilled pledges. His connection with Jangpura’s residents and extensive grassroots outreach solidified his popularity. “I know this constituency inside out,” he declared during his campaign. AAP’s Maninder Dhir had captured Jangpura from Congress in 2013. When Dhir switched to BJP in 2015, AAP’s Praveen Kumar replaced him, winning that year and in 2020. The latest switch, however, failed to yield desired outcome for AAP.
