In addition to school closures, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has also announced the closure of all central government offices, including industrial establishments, in Delhi on February 5, 2025, to allow government employees to participate in the election process.
Holiday for Jamia Millia Islamia’s Middle School
In line with election-related protocols, schools and colleges that serve as polling stations are typically closed on the day of voting. Jamia Millia Islamia, a prominent university in Delhi, has declared a two-day holiday for its Middle School students, covering February 4 and 5. The school’s premises will be handed over to election authorities to facilitate the necessary voting arrangements.
This closure is part of a larger trend observed during election periods, where various educational institutions across the city are used as polling stations, leading to temporary shutdowns. Jamia Millia Islamia’s proactive approach in declaring a holiday ensures that both students and staff can participate in the democratic process without disruptions to their routines.
The University took to X to inform about its closure on election day. The quote states, “In light of the upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections scheduled for February 5, 2025, the competent authority at @jmiu_official has announced that there will be holidays for both students and staff of Jamia Middle School on February 3 and 4, 2025. This decision has been made to facilitate the transfer of the school premises to the relevant authorities. The official order is attached.”
Services and Public Facilities Uninterrupted
While schools and educational institutions might observe a break, essential services such as hospitals, pharmacies, and various businesses will remain operational. Grocery stores, restaurants, and other retail establishments will operate as usual, providing the daily necessities for the residents of Delhi.
Additionally, the Delhi Metro and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) have made extensive arrangements to ensure smooth transportation for voters. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will begin early services from 4 am, running trains every 30 minutes until 6 am before returning to the regular schedule. DTC has also planned extra bus services on 35 routes to accommodate voters and poll staff, further enhancing accessibility for all involved in the election process.
