Dr Congo Unrest: NATO Nation’s Big Warning, Western Mercenaries Flee As M23 Rebels Advance
288 Romanian mercenaries reportedly surrendered and left for home from violence-gripped DR Congo as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels continued their ‘invasion’ of the African nation. The rebels tightened their grip on Goma, and headed to Bukavu in South Kivu, aiming to capture capital city of Kinshasa next. Civilians, foreign workers, including World Bank staff continued to flee the Democratic Republic of Congo. Meanwhile, Brussels airlines suspended flights to and from the country and Belgium warned its citizens against travel to DR Congo a day after the NATO nation’s embassy was set ablaze by protesters who slammed international inaction to rebel violence.
