NEW DELHI: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Monday made a big claim ahead of the Delhi elections, accusing BJP of mixing poison in the water that is coming to Delhi from Haryana.
“The BJP government there is mixing poison in the water coming from Haryana,” said Kejriwal. Further attacking the BJP, he also said, “The country has never seen such dirty politics till date. If the people of Delhi are not voting for BJP, will you kill the people of Delhi by giving them water mixed with poison?”
As me made the claims, he assured that he will not let this alleged mixing affect the people of Delhi. “I want to tell the people of Delhi that as long as Kejriwal is there, I will not let any harm come to the people of Delhi, he said while calling out BJP to not “stoop so low”.
Praising the Jal Board engineers for identifying the problem and stopping the water at the border. Kejriwal added that if “this water had come into Delhi and gotten mixed with the drinking water, don’t know how many people Delhi would have died- this would have been a mass genocide.” Giving further details on the accusations, the former Delhi CM claimed that “it is kind of poison that even the water treatment plants of Delhi can’t clean. Because of this, there is water scarcity in one-third of Delhi.”
Kejriwal also revealed that, “Atishi ji and Bhagwant Mann ji have written letter to the Election Commission and have sought time to meet on an urgent basis. I hope the Election Commission will intervene and save the people of Delhi from this tragedy.”
Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini hit back at Kejriwal refuting the claims. “It is his (Arvind Kejriwal) habit and thinking to allege and then run away… I said that you (Arvind Kejriwal) sent your chief secretary and I will ask my chief secretary to check the quality of water at Sonipat from where it (Yamuna) is entering Delhi. He talks about Ammonia. He claims scarcity of water – but there is no scarcity; there is an issue in the distribution system,” he said. Further critiquing Kejriwal’s work, the CM added, “He cannot manage the distribution of water in 10 years – even though he promised it from the stage, still people are getting polluted water… He should work instead of making allegations. The people of Delhi have made up their minds and they will teach him a lesson.”
Haryana minister Anil Vij also slammed Kejriwal denying the accusations and putting the blame back at him. “Arvind Kejriwal is a factory of lies… Take all journalists and analysts to the place where Yamuna enters Delhi and check the quality of water, and then check the quality of water in Delhi. They will see the difference,” said the labour minister of Haryana. Further slamming the AAAP chief he added, “Its not our job to clean the river in Delhi, it was Arvind Kejriwal’s job, which he could not do.”
This comes amid reports that the Election Commission of India was notified today through a formal representation from the chief ministers of Delhi and Punjab regarding elevated ammonia levels in water being supplied from Haryana to Delhi. The issue has reportedly disrupted Delhi’s water distribution system. The Commission instructed Haryana authorities to submit a detailed factual assessment of the situation tomorrow by 12 noon.
