NEW DELHI: India’s success in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy could heavily depend on Mohammed Shami, especially when the team’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, has been ruled out of the tournament owing to back injury.
Shami, who recently returned to international cricket after a 14-month injury layoff after sustaining an ankle injury during the 2023 World Cup final, is still struggling and has yet to get back to his full rhythm.

However, Shami’s ability to swing the ball both ways and deliver breakthroughs in crucial moments makes him indispensable. His experience in ICC tournaments, coupled with his skill in handling pressure, provides India with a reliable match-winner.
In his special series, ‘StarPlay: Cricket & Astrology’ for TOI Sports, renowned astrologer Greenstone Lobo shared a detailed picture of Shami’s astrological analysis and what it could mean for pacer with regard to Team India‘s chances in the Champions Trophy starting on February 19.
“Shami’s horoscope has got a phenomenal chart. He was born in the year 1990, when planet Pluto entered just into its own house in the nascent stage. Now that is extremely powerful, very, very auspicious and very strong. It can make somebody a legend. And adding to the fact that Shami also has a very powerful Neptune. Neptune is the seventh lord; the seventh house means what, you know, impacts and destroys enemies. And Pluto is his third lord; the third house means what the hands do. So all of these planets are powerful. But then what adds to the edge of his chart is that Shami has got Venus and Mars in conjunction,” Lobo explained.
“If you look at all the greatest fast bowlers, be it Wasim Akram or Zaheer Khan or even Bumrah, they all have Venus and Mars in conjunction. Venus means what, you know, all of those stunts which a fast bowler does; it can be a reverse swing, it can be bounce. For that you need Venus strong. But Mars adds to the energy, stamina, strength and power. So when both of the forces combine together, it makes someone a phenomenally fast bowler who can destroy opposition. So that’s exactly what Shami also has. Now if you look at the entirety of the chart, it is phenomenal,” Lobo further explained.
“And if this team has to win, then Shami has to play a great role. And if you’re looking at his chart, yes, he has it in him to be a part of a great tournament victory. And if India has to win this tournament, then they cannot win without Shami. And Shami will play a crucial role. He will ensure that, you know, he is encouraging all those younger bowlers like Harshit Rana, and it will be great. Because Rana also has something which is in a fantastic position to create a symbiosis. So it’s a fabulous team that we have. And Shami definitely has it in him to spearhead India to great victories. And if at all India is going to win the Champions Trophy, then definitely Shami will have a great role to play,” Lobo concluded.
