Assam FM presents ₹2.63 lakh crore Budget for 2025-26


Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Monday (March 10) presented a ₹2.63 lakh crore Budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year in the Assembly. The state has witnessed a 250% rise in budgetary expenditure while capital expenditure has risen to ₹24,964 crore in 2024-25.

The Budget offered exemption of professional tax for earnings upto ₹15,000 per month. The Minister said it would benefit over 1.43 lakh taxpayers.

The government announced a one-time financial aid of ₹5,000 for tea workers during the annual budget. Neog stated that the assistance will benefit around 6.8 lakh tea workers across the state. The government has allocated ₹342 crore for the initiative.

The government has allocated ₹5,000 crore for its flagship Orunodoi scheme, which would cover over 37 lakh women in the state.

Another ₹3,038 crore has been allocated for the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan to encourage women entrepreneurs. The scheme will begin on April 1, 2025, in Behali.

The Mukhiya Mantri Nijut Moina scheme is allocated ₹391 crore. The scheme is aimed to boost girls’ higher education and fight child marriage.
