To evoke nostalgia, makers decided to recreate Anuj and Anupamaa’s wedding look for Prem and Raahi.

For nearly half a decade, Anupamaa, starring actress Rupali Ganguly, has dominated the Indian television scene, even breaking several TRP records. Over the years, the show has kept audiences hooked with its gripping storyline and dramatic twists. Given the immense popularity of the show, the makers have tried their best to include engaging twists and turns. However, despite its strong legacy, the show’s latest track, centring around Prem and Raahi’s much-awaited wedding along with some drama, has not quite struck the right chord with viewers.
Recent glimpses of the highly anticipated wedding, featuring Prem and Raahi, played by Shivam Khajuria and Adrija Roy, respectively, dressed groom and bride, have surfaced online. The pictures and videos have sparked a flurry of reactions from the audience. In an attempt to evoke nostalgia, the Anupamaa makers decided to recreate Anupamaa and Anuj’s wedding looks for Prem and Raahi. While Prem slips into a regal, red-coloured sherwani identical to the one Gaurav Khanna (Anuj) wore on his wedding day with Anupamaa, Raahi embodied grace in a red and white bridal ensemble along with heavy pieces of jewellery, mirroring Anupamaa’s look.
Despite the homage to the beloved couple Anuj and Anupamaa, the wedding has left the fans of the show unimpressed. Many have expressed their disappointment, saying that Prem and Raahi looked like the “cheap version of MaAn.” A user slammed the production house of Anupamaa, Director’s Kut Productions and wrote, “Even copying the outfit won’t help to become Even Sasta version of #MaAn ..Dkp what a cheap way to get buzz during Their wedding.”
Another noted, “Anuj ka look ispe bilkul suit hii nahi karta. Kya DKP ke pass itna bhi paisa nahi hai joh apne hii ek show ki famous character ki copy usee show main karke, original humesha original hii hota hai, get up copy karnese look nahi aajati.”
Some on the internet also found similarities in the storyline of Kartik and Naira from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. “Storyline toh YRKKH ka hai Kartik aur Naira wala. Makers ko story nahi mil rahi hai na,” said a different user.
Someone also expressed their frustration on how the makers have completely changed the story of the Bengali serial Shreemoyee, whose remake is Anupamaa. The user noted, “Original Story ka satyanash karke rakh diya inlogone?? We still remember the original Bengali serial SREEMOYEE written by Leena Gangopadhyay.”
