All NCR states now have BJP governments, will give infra a big push, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI: With all states in National Capital Region now having BJP govts, a slew of projects will be taken up for improving mobility and infrastructure across the region, PM Narendra Modi said on Saturday.
The PM’s announcement is likely to give the long-awaited push to the two Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors – connecting Delhi with Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) urban complex in Rajasthan and Panipat in Haryana, and five major highway links across NCR.

Mobility projects, particularly extension of the Metro Rail network and RRTS, were delayed due to inadequate support from AAP govt, sources said. Now these projects and a new Metro link from Indra Prastha to North Block would be expedited, they added.
Addressing the party workers after BJP’s poll sweep, Modi said, “This is for the first time since Independence when every state in the NCR has BJP govts. All neighbouring states (of Delhi) – Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana – have BJP govts. This is a happy coincidence. This single coincidence will open numerous avenues for development. Our efforts will be to undertake a lot of work in this area with regard to mobility and infrastructure development.”
Stating that Delhi being the country’s capital “deserves the best urban infrastructure”, Modi said the BJP govt will develop it as a “modern city”, while asserting that people have seen the central govt’s “stellar” performance in the housing and road sector.
He also slammed the AAP govt’s approach towards Metro Rail projects.
TOI has learnt that the Delhi-SNB and Delhi-Panipat RRTS projects are at the appraisal stages. So far the Delhi govt, being a partner in the projects, had given in-principle approval while suggesting that though it supported them, the funding should come from Centre. However, complying with a Supreme Court direction it had submitted token amounts for these projects.
In his address, the PM said while the earlier governments looked at urbanisation as a “liability and concern” and treated it as “means for earning personal wealth, his govt sees it as an opportunity and a means to strengthen the urban poor.
Just before the polls were announced, the seven Delhi MPs had sought construction of three major highway projects costing around Rs 12,000 crore to decongest Delhi. The highway ministry has started the process to appoint a DPR (detailed project report) consultant for connectivity between Delhi Katra Expressway and UER II and other proposals are at different stages.
