NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi‘s assertion on tabling of all pending CAG reports – some 14 of them, dating back to 2017-18, including those on ‘Sheesh Mahal‘ and the liquor policy – and not sparing any corrupt in Delhi is being seen as a pointer to a fresh round of criminal action against top AAP functionaries, with the probes likely to extend from health and education contracts to PWD and the Delhi Jal Board.

Several cases, such as those related to CCTV procurement and DJB, may be pursued more aggressively by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. BJP has alleged widespread financial irregularities in DJB during Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure, pointing out his refusal to place, as required under the Constitution and emphasised by Delhi HC, CAG reports in the assembly. Modi said all the findings of the auditor would be placed in the the first session of the new assembly.
With poor water supply being a major concern, the lack of proper accounting for 2021-22 and 2022-23 had given the saffron party major ammunition to hit out at Kejriwal and his aides.
While AAP had announced 24 hospital projects in the Capital, including the extension of existing ones, there has been a massive increase in cost and there are allegations of irregularities, which are likely to be probed.
Sources said the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ probe would also look into how several fittings and fixtures found their way into the CM’s residence when there were no bills for their purchase, including gold-plated toilet fittings. In fact, some of the high-value purchases, such as gold craft painting, that were allegedly made have also gone missing from the inventory, a senior source alleged.
Sources said irregularities have also been noticed in Delhi schools where some of the toilets were shown as classrooms and these could be another area of investigation.
While LG V K Saxena had pointed out these irregularities, AAP had at that time sought to counter each of the allegations through an aggressive counter-offensive. The counter-offensive may not be equally effective after the loss of official levers on Saturday.
A source in one of the agencies said that in several of the cases, APP functionaries had sought to block access to papers as well, which is now expected to be easier, with a strong likelihood of documents finding their way into the public sphere.
