New York has emerged as the leading city in the US for artificial intelligence (AI) job postings, with nearly 2,000 available roles as of January 2025. This surge highlights the growing demand for AI professionals in the tech-driven job market, with New York outpacing other metro areas by a wide margin. The data, compiled by UMD-LinkUp AI Maps, a collaboration between the University of Maryland, job listings platform LinkUp, and Outrigger Group, sheds light on the increasing prominence of AI in the workforce.
Despite concerns over job automation and potential displacement, AI-related roles are in high demand across the nation. According to the report, New York leads the charge with 1,995 job postings, followed by Seattle and San Jose in the rankings. These cities, along with others, reflect a nationwide push to integrate AI into various industries, offering new opportunities for skilled professionals.

The data reveals a significant gap between New York and the next highest-ranking city, Seattle, which recorded 1,472 AI job postings. San Jose, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, secured third place with 1,228 job listings. These three cities continue to dominate the AI job market, underlining their positions as key technology hubs in the US

Other notable cities in the top 10 include Dallas, which ranks sixth with 708 job postings, and Chicago, which placed seventh with 653 listings. Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles came in eighth and ninth with 596 and 585 job postings, respectively. Finally, Atlanta rounds out the list with 583 AI job openings, securing the tenth spot.
