Madagascar’s First Caviar Producer Transforms Luxury Food Industry

Delphyne Dabezies defied skepticism to create Africa’s first caviar company, Acipenser, with its renowned Rova and Kasnodar brands. Located in the mountains of Madagascar, near Lake Mantasoa, Acipenser has earned global recognition, supplying prestigious kitchens worldwide. Caviar, a delicacy traditionally from the Caspian Sea, can fetch up to $27,000 a teaspoon. Despite initial doubts, Dabezies’ perseverance paid off with the help of a retired sturgeon expert. Acipenser, which employs 300 locals, has integrated community welfare, offering medical care, education, and job training. Dabezies emphasizes providing local economic benefits while promoting Madagascar’s unique biodiversity.
