Shreya Chaudhry, whose performance as Tamanna tugged at the audience’s heartstrings in the romantic musical drama Bandish Bandits, continues to carve her path in showbiz. Fresh off the success of another captivating season alongside Ritwik Bhowmic, the 29-year-old took up a new role in Boman Irani’s The Mehta Boys. In a new interview, Shreya shared that she wants to break free from the conventional path in her career.
Speaking with PTI, the Commando actress shared that she loves Bollywood masalas as well as thought-provoking international and regional films. “I love watching big-ticket masala films, but I’ve also grown up watching international and regional cinema like Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Thai or Italian films,” she said.
Shreya continued, “As an actor, I want to do anything and everything. I don’t have a plan; I just want to go with the flow,” and expressed her gratitude to have worked on projects like Bandish Bandits and The Mehta Boys. She added, “I want to continue to work with people who are passionate about cinema.”
The 29-year-old actress gained immense popularity after Bandish Bandits’ first season was released on Amazon Prime back in 2020, which also featured the veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. While conversing with the aforementioned news agency, Shreya acknowledged that her career took a turn after the musical drama’s release. “I feel heard and seen as an actor post ‘Bandish Bandits’. It is a big deal for me,” the actress noted.
Talking more about her career, Shreya added, “I want to be part of well-written stories, play characters in which I can dig my teeth, and work with some great people. I want to continue to be part of projects that excite me. It feels good to receive love for your work. It’s going to be onward and upward from here on.”
Furthermore, the Dear Maya actress shared that she “organically” landed a role in The Mehta Boys. “I randomly said, ‘I want to work with Boman sir’. Within a week, I got a call about a project that Boman sir was acting in, writing, and directing. I was like, ‘By hook or crook, I need to be part of this,” Shreya recalled.
The Mehta Boys also stars Avinash Tiwary, who plays the son of Irani’s character. The film revolves around the strained relationship of the father-son duo, who were forced to live together for 48 hours following a death in their family. It was released on February 7 on Amazon Prime.
