Why did President Droupadi Murmu give permission to Poonam Gupta for her wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan?
CRPF officer Poonam Gupta is currently posted as PSO at the President House. She also led the all-women contingent at the 74th Republic Day Parade. As per ETV Bharat, President Droupadi Murmu granted permission to Poonam Gupta to get married at Rashtrapati Bhavan because of her dedication, professionalism, and strict code of conduct during her service. This will make CRPF officer Poonam Gupta the first person to ever get married at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, thus creating history.

As per reports, CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta is from Madhya Pradesh. Poonam is a graduate in Mathematics, after which she pursued her post-graduation in English literature followed by a B.Ed degree. She then applied and cleared the 2018 UPSC CAPF exam wherein she secured rank 81. Poonam Gupta serves as the Assistant Commandant in the CRPF and she has also served at Bihar’s Naxal-affected zone, among other areas. Her story is that of grit and perseverance which is an inspiration to many young women in the country.
Meanwhile, Poonam Gupta’s fiance, Avinash Kumar is also a CRPF Assistant Commandant and he is currently stationed in Jammu & Kashmir. Their wedding on February 12, 2025 will be held at the Rashtrapti Bhavan’s Mother Teresa Crown Complex and it will be attended only by their close family members.
