PRAYAGRAJ: At least 10 people died and over a dozen were injured when an SUV carrying passengers collided head-on with a speeding private bus near Meja Road crossing under the jurisdiction of Meja police station in Prayagraj district late Friday night.
The incident occurred at around 12.54 am.
Upon being alerted, senior police officials, along with forces, rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations.
DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Yadav told TOI that at least 10 people traveling in the SUV died on the spot, while the injured were taken to Meja CHC for treatment.
He added, “A group of people were traveling towards Prayagraj from Korba (Chhattisgarh) in the SUV, while the bus carrying passengers was on its way to Varanasi from Prayagraj.”
“After receiving information, we have contacted the family members of the deceased to gather more details,” said the DCP, adding, “We are making efforts to ascertain the identities of all the deceased.”
